Taking place on Thursday March 21st in Swindon, the AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) 2019 conference will be packed with speakers from the sector, representatives from Government and families bereaved by domestic homicide.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Harriet Wistrich alongside a family member bereaved by double domestic homicide: Harriet is a solicitor of twenty plus years’ experience working with the renowned civil liberties firm, Birnberg Peirce Ltd. She is the winner of the Liberty Human Rights Lawyer of the Year award 2014 and Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year 2018. She founded The Centre for Women’s Justice in 2016, a new multi partner organisation aimed at bringing cases holding the state to account in relation to violence against women and girls. She is also an active member of the Police Action Lawyers Group, Inquest Lawyers Group, Justice for Women and is a trustee of the charity, the Emma Humphreys Memorial Prize.
  • Lizanne Van Vuuren – Lizanne was a very close friend of William Pemberton who was killed in 2003. Lizanne also formed part of the coxless crew that rowed unsupported across the Pacific Ocean in 2015.
  • Ryan & Luke Hart – Ryan and Luke’s father killed their Mother and Sister in 2016. They have recently published ‘Operation Lighthouse: Reflections on our family’s devastating story of coercive control and domestic homicide’
  • Families bereaved by domestic homicide
